NEEDLE IN A HAYSTACK

We have reversed the relationship of the needle to the haystack. Instead of a needle there is a small precious (golden) hay roll, while hundreds of antlers form a haystack like mound that conceals this hay. The hay or resources, which so eludes the wild elk in many parts of the American west is hidden amidst the antlers, which they leave behind annually as a reminder of their need to be managed by their human counterparts. We have transformed the antlers into small stylized replicas, objects of beauty, imbued with a sense of wildness and the natural world, but in fact a relic of a managed nature sustained through the shedding of their own parts.
